Research Technician

We are looking for a talented individual to join our Research & Development team as a full time Research Technician in our Ottawa, Canada office.  Reporting to a Lead Scientist, you will work on vaccine research and pre-clinical development projects including analytical assays for antigen characterization and analysis of immune responses in animals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform bioanalytical assays, focusing primarily on antigen characterization using enzyme immunoassays, ELISAs, Bradford, BCA, SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis, western blot, and qPCR.
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook of experiments performed
  • Operate and maintain requisite laboratory equipment and instruments and record data
  • Perform laboratory test assays using sound scientific methods and available SOPs, GLP instructions
  • Analyze data using Prism, MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint software
  • Summarize, report and present results of experiments and exchange information with supervisors and peers in a professional manner
  • Work independently, contribute as team member and be flexible working in a dynamic environment
  • Use universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens
  • Comply with biohazard safety standard through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace
  • Complete annual biohazard/universal precaution/radiation safety training, as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • College Diploma in Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field and 2+ years’ experience
  • Or a Bachelor Degree in one of the above fields
  • Related industry laboratory experience is considered a strong asset
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility in working hours, evening and weekend work may be required depending on the nature of the research process
